Gunmen men kill traditional ruler in Kaduna##Gov. Nasir El-Rufai vowed to bring the culprit to book.

There was panic in Karshi, Sanga local government area of Kaduna state as unknown gunmen murdered the district head, Bala Madaki and his nephew, Emmanuel Tanko on Sunday, May 1.

The 66-year-old traditional ruler was killed at his residence in Fadan Karshi at about 10.30pm, This Day reports.

The gunmen, suspected to be Fulanis were said to have stormed his residence and opened fire.

Giving account of what happened, a Pastor Mike Makarfi, a clergy man in the area said: “Some gunmen who our people said were Fulani stormed his compound and started shooting. They went into his room and shot him point blank. They also shot a small boy, Emmanuel Tanko, who was writing his final year secondary school exams. The boy was the nephew of the late Chief.”

Makarfi said the area has been deserted and shops and service centres are shut.

“People are either staying in-doors or are leaving the town. No one knows what is coming next, Police are patrolling the streets, but I am not sure if they have any clue about the murderers,” he added.

Confirming the incident, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, the spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, said he was expecting the divisional police officer in Karshi to brief him with details of the incident.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has vowed to bring the culprits to book.

A statement by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan, read: “It is a sad development. But we will not relent in our duty of protecting our people. We shall continue to strengthen the security agencies to do a better job, as well as encourage harmonious coexistence across our communities.”

The governor urged residents of Sanga local government to remain calm and cooperate with the security agents to arrest the perpetrators.
